As a rule I neither measure nor weigh fish. To me, "trophy" means the conditions of the catch more than size or weight per se.
For instance, the first fly-caught Skamania steelhead I caught after helping establish that fishery in the great lakes, was a trophy. It was only about 29 or 30 inches, and never saw a scale. But a very meaningful catch.
I willl put a tape on an exceptional catch, just out of curiousity.
I would have to say my biggest freshwater fish was a 42" musky. Took it using a #10 weight and a Jimmy Dale Special out of Cave Run Lake, here in Kentucky.
I've taken inland striped bass that the guides guestimate between 25 & 30 pounds. But can't confirm those weights. And I have no idea how long they were.
