It's kind of strange. Everybody uses buzzbaits, and a lot of great fish have been caught on them---but not by me.
For some reason, maybe lack of confidence?, I haven't caught fish one on a buzzbait. Not on top, as they're designed, not with varying the depth and style of retrieve.
Ironically, the biggest bass I've caught came on a spinnerbait buzzed on the surface. Go figure.
Anyway, what buzzbait are really good for, IMO, is as locator baits. Fish will smack them, but not really hit. When that happens, pick up a rod with a different suitable bait and go to it.
