A perfect day!
#4
Sorry about that. Yes, I am referring to Lucky Peak Reservoir, just a few miles east of Boise. There are three major reservoirs on the Boise River: Anderson Ranch, on the South Fork, Arrowrock, fed by the South and Middle Forks, and finally, Lucky Peak. All three have kokanee. Anderson Ranch has had major runs in the past, but currently the kokes are running small. Lucky Peak, on the other hand, has been putting out lunkers. Every year, the kokanee tend to run 16-18"s. We were obviously catching next year's fish, and they are already 12"s and FAT. There seems to be no shortage of zooplankton to keep them fat and sassy! With the size of the fish I just caught, I would not be at all surprised to see some 20" fish next summer. I know, wishful thinking. But, thanks to the Fish and Game, it has become a remarkable fishery. They have been talking about planting triploid kokanee, and I wonder if this coming year's class are trips. We had action every 5 minutes today on average. Can't beat that. Mike
