If all the kids did that, we wouldn't have the problems we have now. Your dad did good and taught you at an early age so you would be ready. That's the way it should be.
But like I said before, a huge reason for getting kids certified early is so that they can get started on their 13 year Utah draw process. That way maybe they can draw 3 tags in a lifetime.
I know guys that make their wives take hunters safety just so they can get them in the draw. They don't ever touch a rifle until they draw the tag, and even then, they have no desire to even hunt. I have seen it a hundred times. Pretty
