Like I said, if the parents are wackos, any law won't matter. They'll still do what they want.
I did just that with my dad. I started going deer hunting with him when I was like 8 years old. I loved it. He taught me gun safety, stalking skills, about nature, etc. When I was 12 I was totally ready to carry a shotgun safely. When I was 14, totally ready to safely handle a rifle. I shot my first deer at 15 (didn't even see a buck my first season).
It's not the age, it's the maturity level. 99.9% of hunting accidents are caused by adults, and usually they end up shooting themselves because of a lack of following basic gun safety.
