And what if the parents are Wackos? In my opinion, if the kid needs an adult with him so he doesn't make a stupid decision, he shouldn't be hunting.
Some kids are more mature than others and could probably handle hunting by themselves. The point is, I don't feel comfortable with kids running around with guns. Especially after they just got done having a soft air war with thier friends.
I think a lot of guys here in Utah will sign up their sons and daughters asap, so they can get them in the drawing.
I think at 12 years old a kid should be going to the range regularly with his dad and going out hunting with him (Without a gun) as much as possible. After he has 2 or 3 years of experience out in the field with his dad, he will be ready.
Heck, give the kid a BB gun to take out hunting with his dad so he can practice hunting ethics and stuff, then you know he will be ready when the time comes.
