+2 to what tuben2 said on all the above.
If I was going to be throwing liver I would use a his exact system because you can cast it out there further and you don't have to worry about it flipping off of your hook even with treble hooks that snotty stuff flies right off. And I hate touching the stuff so one time is enough.
And I like to use as little hardware as possible.
But I do use a barrel swivel when I am cat fishing and about 3 to4 feet of leader. To keep my sinker from my bait.
