Using a snap instead of knotting?
#5
The size of the fish in your lake will determine the size of the hook that is necessary in some cases.

To play it safe while using a treble hook, try to keep it as small as you can while not sacrificing the ability for a good hook up.

A size 4 or 6 should be good for all around catfishing. Most people will still prefer the Cirlcle hooks or even the Kahle Hooks. It is a little harder to keep bait on them sometimes but there is a cure for that too.

Some old Panty hose or nylon stocking work great for holding some of the softer Catfish bait and still allow you good success with the single hook as opposed to the treble hook. Simply fill a small section of the nylon stockings and then tie it in a knot to keep contents inside.

That will go right on the single hook and not be stolen easily by the fish. You can also cast it farther if you need to.

There is nothing wrong with using the treble hooks. Sometimes you end up with 2 barbs in the fish and it becomes more of a challenge for most anglers to remove the hook.[cool]
