Need help slowing down my boat

they make a trolling plate that attaches to your motor and drops down when you want to go slower. or you can do like my bro inlaw and he just throws a old 5 gallon bucket back be hind his boat to create drag. that do also make a trolling sock its the same idea as the bucket but alot easier to store when not in use.
