[/url]Ok, the conversation under the topic "which fish is bigger" has kind of shifted over to some talk about what produces the big bass that you always see and hear about being caught over here in CA. I figured that I would try and shift that conversation out of that topic seeing as to how most people probably aren't even paying attention to that string of posts anymore due to the dribble that started taking place for a bit in there. LOL. I'll try to answer a few questions...it was asked when bass stop reproducing...answer: all the way up until they die. They don't reach a certain age or size and then stop reproducing. That's why a lot of big bass hunters in CA start talking so strongly about catch and release. It was mentioned that genetics plays a big role in the huge bass we get in CA. That's true. The big bass carry something that a lot of guys simply call...The Big Fish gene. Again, that's why some of the guys around here get pretty touchy with the whole catch and release thing. It's believed by a lot of guys that these big fish should be released to spawn so they can continue to carry on the big fish gene to their offspring. However, because they're that big, they've obviously seen a lot of spawning seasons in their day and obviously have got a bunch of kids already...LoL...that's why I don't get offended as easily as a lot of other CA guys when I see a big one being kept. It was also mentioned that the stocking of trout has a big part in it too...you better believe it. The big bass around here love to munch on those stocking sized trout, and trout are just pure fat for bass. Almost all the big bass lakes in CA are stocked with trout. Someone also posted a pic in that last thread of a 14.6lb largemouth caught by a guy named Rob Belloni AKA Swimbait. He's one of the big bass hunters here and one of those guys that'll freak out if he hear's anything about a big bass being kept. LoL. But that 14.6 is nothin'. Rob has no trouble catching fish that size, but just last weekened he caught his personal best weighing in at 18lbs. You want to see a big bass...check this out!!
