Chris, I have fished for carp from a tube on Utah Lake, but these are all from the Jordan river that is within walking distance from my house.
On stillwater, TYPE II and on rivers floating. On the sinking line I always use about 3 to 4 feet of straight Fluoro. No need for a taper leader.
On river, I am using a 5 1/2' furled leader made out of 2 lb Maximum and then 3 ' of 8 to 10 lb Fluoro.
In both cases, I cast over the sighting of the carp (either the back or the mud stirred up). Then a slow steady strip. When I feel the hit, I set the hook hard cause of their soft mouths.
I am just getting the hang of this, but it is a blast!
