Politicians, a Broken Record on Oil
#3
Oil is gone, not if, but when.
Your right, it has been going for 30 years and all that was done in that time frame was make bigger vehicles that got less milage.
Believe it or not, this oil price spike (there is no shortage) is good for us, and the US. There is a price for gas, called the "Incentive price". When we hit that price, we will solve the problem. Not the government, we the citizens will solve the problem. Technology is there.
One good friend of mine is installing a split rear end in his 3500 Ram. It will give him a ratio for normal driving and prarie gears for the highway. Why all cars do not have this is beyond me, it has been in trucks for 50 years.
The real problem is not the politicians, it is you and I. We drive the market, we are the buyers. If we buy big cars and trucks, they make big cars and trucks.
When we start to demand 50 mpg and electric cars that do 40mph and can go 80 miles, we will get them. But not until. With them will come more solar pannels, more small windmills, more big windmills, more hydro electricity, probably some nuke plants, tide force capturing and lots of other "American Ingeniuty" items.
I count more on the garages of Americans than I do anyone else. We are a very resourceful nation, especilly when we are down or in a corner.
Bring back the 50mpg Rabbit diesel.
