Before you make such a bold statement on behalf of all dogs, I strongly recommend you research some cases regarding gorillas and dogs. Most dogs will tuck tail and run from them. I have personally trained my two German Shepherds and know for a fact that you just can't teach a dog to trace anything. They have to be preexposed from puppyhood and it takes extensive training in the field to produce and excellent and reliable training dog. I know a fellow who had k-9 training down at the Texas base, so just go speak to any k-9 officer if you don't believe me.

All the research about chimps and gorillas has not been the resulf of tracking dogs. The gorillas especially know well in advance of their presense and get the heck out of there real fast. And, when a dog does catch up (very rarely) they just take it by the neck and twist or just thrash it against a tree, or just throw it tens of feet in the air. This happens very often in Africa, where domestic/hunting dogs go after gorillas.
