(Poll) Do you believe in Bigfoot??
#25
This is not a myth. There have been several scat, hair, and skin specimens examined by numerous scientists. You have to remeber though, DNA evidence alone is not going to put an end to it. The samples have DNA from bacteria that grow on them, and the specimens are usually contaminated by those who find them or otherwise.

The best DNA evidence so far comes from the laboratory of a British Columbia university. What is knows so far is that the sample is from a primate. But not from any primate known to science currently. It does not match human, chimpanzee, gorilla, gibbon, or orangutan DNA. It does not match any other mammal either. However, it is completely plausible that the contamination contained in the sample and the DNA extraction process itself has altered teh DNA and so this is not a smoking gun. It is tantgalizing and strong evidence nontheless.

Same thing with some hair samples. The examiners determined that they came from a primate, and again, none of the known primates or human hair could match it. I think this is much stronger evidence.

Here are the links to what I am talking about:

But the best source is the book I talked about in the previous posts.
