Welcome to BFTadvt. You didn't let us know if it's saltwater or fresh that you will be fishing. It will be tough to get any quality combo rig for that much money. I do prefer shimano rods and reels. The rods are guaranteed for life and the reels have done very well for me in both waters. Diawa is another brand you can feel good about. We all have our favorites, but to be honest no one I know owns a shakespeare rig. Check with the big box stores and ebay to cut costs.
