Throwing a #2 hair fly with an 8 wt and a 15# tippet with a bass bug line is the only way to go if you are going to get serious about bass on the fly. You don't need the rod to fight the fish (unless it's a hog). You need it so your shoulder doesn't give out after a half day of double hauling a small bird on the end of your line. I currently am fishing a Scott S3 6 wt, and it's not enough. I would get an 8 wt, but I had to get a baitcaster setup first!
