if I might suggest .. we use to do emergency pipe patches in the Navy in a variety of ways.. one of which was to layer patches over a leak and then ulltimately seal it with a heavy piece of rubber material that was held in place by those screw down hose clamps.. I wonder if you could not get a piece of heavy rubber .. say like a dish drain mat or heavier.. cut a hole to size .. slip that over the top piece and then secure it in place with two hose clamps.. then trim the ends of the hose clamps if needed.. just a thought..
