I have 3 dogs that I am gonna try and take with us fishing on the new boat this summer. It's only a 14 footer so it's gonna be a bit cozy.
I have a yellow lab named Jessie, a mini dachsund named Matilda (Mattie) and a mini schnauzer puppy named Murphy,They love to camp so they will probably eat a day on the boat up.
My question to you Riverdog, is how in the hell do you take your lab to a stream and keep him out of the water. I am on my 4th lab in 30 years and I cannot yet convince one that when I am fishing, they need to lay down and watch.
Jessie is the worst of the bunch. He's well trained and smart a can be. I can work him to 3 dummies and pick the sequence I want him to retrieve them in. But when he gets anywhere near water, his brains fall out completely. One of the funniest things I have ever seen was last summer at Willard Bay. We had just arrived and my 18 year old and I were unloading the canoe. My 13 year old had him on a leash. They both weigh about 85 pounds, but the dog is strong. My son started walking Jessie down to the beach, the dog literally yanked the boy down on the ground and dragged him the last 25 feet through the gravel and into the water. His brother and I were both laughing so hard we couldn't even help. He finally dropped the leash after he was out about waist deep in the water.
