You might want to purchase a reel cover if you are going to purchase a reel made with magnesium, it is more brittle than aluminum, and if you get a deep scratch in it, that would start an open window for corrosion, and then you wouldn't get as long of life out of it.
I read somewhere that if you use them in brackish water, (water with some salt, maybe Willard Bay I has salt, I'm not sure,) it will start to break down the material also.
Yes, it is lighter than Aluminum, but I sometimes get scratches I don't know where they came from with normal use.
