I dont want it to be a brand x vs brand y. I just know my experience with the express and wingmaster series shotguns that Remington produces. Ten years ago they may have been a lot better quality. Todays production of them is not the quality Remington produced years ago. I also agree they have the most sold gun on the market, everyone can afford one; however they also have the highest failure rate out of the box on the market as well. I can tell you that the ones I had shot very very well, they were comfortable and had a bit less recoil to them. I also like how the trigger assembly is put together. If you want some more advice on them check out www.shotgunworld.com. There is a lot of pros and cons on different brands and their track records.
Personally if it were me I would stick with the 12g and I really would not go with anything less than the 3.5" chamber as you never know when you may want to get more payload in the sky.
