Comment on Glen Canyon Dam Flush (not the toilet!)
#35
Don't get me started on those damn brookies[mad]. They have ruined more miles of good fishing in the west than anything else I've encountered. At best this recent experiment will improve sandbars and habitat for humpback chubs below as well as generate a little extra electricity. Maybe it won't work but really what is the downside to it. Someone already spent the money studying this and whether it was carried out or not we're not getting that money back. I had looked into this a month ago to decide whether to still plan my trip after they proposed the dates of the higher releases. All the information I found suggested except a couple days of blown out fishing followed by a couple days of improved fishing, that there would be almost no impact to the trout fishery. Many on this site would have had me believing that this was going to absolutely wipe every trout out below and possible ruin Lake Powell above. All from letting 10 days water out in 3 days. I don't really see a downside. If anything maybe fewer people will be likely to support removing Glen Canyon Dam if they see even a slight improvement in habitat in the Grand Canyon.
