This is the catch of the day. I’ve caught several other chubs that are larger than this one and suckers that would also be very close to the state record but never decided to enter one until today. I've been debating whether I should enter a "trash fish" for a state record. Some would consider it an honor to catch a state record “trash fish” and others would consider it a shame. It was just over 14" long and went 1.38 lbs on a certified scale. I took it to the F&G office to get it verified as a Utah Chub so it could be entered.
I would say the perch bite was only about half as good as it has been other trips. The perch action was still fairly consistent throughout the day. Edge ice is getting worse with the warm temps and reservoir rising. You could still get on the ice without a board if you found the right spot. Some areas of the shoreline would have required a 10' board. Guys were still getting their 4-wheelers on the ice but they were using planks. Saw one guy get stuck in the shallow water with his 4-wheeler while trying to get on the ice.
This is the only trout I caught today. It was ?17"-18"? long and caught on a tube jig with a piece of perch meat. I also lost a fish that felt much heavier but they are always bigger when they get away.
Here are some of perch I caught today. I ended up keeping about 20 but I didn't keep any under 8". I only caught one larger perch today and it went a little over 11".
