Yes, that was me along with four scouts and another leader camping out on "Windriver" point.[cool] We got there about 40 minutes later than I had intended so we ended up hiking out to the place in the dark. The moon was bright so it was not to hard to get set up.
We only caught one trout in the dark. The night was uneventful other than the neighbor hood dogs barking all night. The coyotes chimed in at about 5:30AM and was joined by an owl at 6:00. Needless to say I did not need an alarm clock to get up and get going. I had all my holes drilled and poles set up by 6:30.
The trout bite came on strong at 7:00. We were pulling them in as fast as we could set the hook for about a 1/2 hour. Most of the boys were still in bed when the bite slowed. Then I concentrated on finding perch for lunch. I found the perch in 40' of water there were literally hundereds of them on the aqua-view, but most of them swam right on by my offerings. Later in the day we did have the kokes come through and we caught 20 or so all together.
Total fish count for the day (including released fish) 15 trout, 25 perch, 20 Kokanee. It isn't often that a plan comes together the way you imagine it, but I was glad those boys saw a good day of ice fishing and had a good experience.
I filleted the perch and we had them for lunch. I also grilled a couple of trout for them. There is nothing better than fresh fish straight from the water to the grill.
