I have had the best luck with broken pottery and truck tires wire tied together in a triangle.Large pieces of Pvc pipe work great. Don't use Chrismas trees or any softwood, those just decay and use up precious oxygen. Often just plain old clean sand or gravel will create a 'Hard Bottom' area that will attract fish. For Crappie we have made areas of old pvc pounded straight down onto the mud at low water. Fish over them in high water and no snags. Milk crates work but snag like crazy.
