williams fp sight

I just put a fp on my Browning High Wall 45/70. Darn tang just was in my way, and never seem to reset same. Buckhorn not working as well with my eyes as used to. It is clear that I will need a higher front sight. Thinking of the high Lyman 17 globe. Any experience here?

Also, I haven't yet had time to play with the adjustments on the fp. I understand the click adjustments and lock screws, but what is the larger screw on the side for? Quick removal of top part? Lock?
