I'm not a skinny guy and I made the trip with 48 inch pontoons and no oars. Never do that again. The water was refreshing. My 'toon was fine and I was never in any trouble, I just passed thru a couple of rapids. At least a paddle is mandatory. When that water gets moving fast your fins just spin you around, facing the rapids. My last trip was in July and it was fantastic!. The Owens is a good second, not a pretty but much, much closer. Below Pleasant Valley Res. no rapids at all. Just pissed off fishermen when you float by scaring 'their' fish. The fly of choice at the Green was an Atomic ant size 8, the fly of choice on the Owens was a weighted Muddler or Maribou Muddler size four hook. Talk it up maybe we can do both and compare and contrast. The Green is four times wider and some spots are deep like eighty feet near the dam. The lake above is famous for big Lake trout and has a fine Smallmouth fishery.
