If your hunt is for the diamond mountain unit I wouldn't even try to access the top of the mountain, that mountain shuts down in a normal year, I'm sure you couldn't get off the pavement without a snowmobile this year. Your best bet is going to be down in the bottom between the rim and the monument. Lots of elk come down into island park, just becareful and know where the boundries of the monument are.
Jack's right though I was out there around New Years and -5 was the highest temp I saw in three days and there was well over a foot of snow on my grandmothers lawn.
