I haven't ice fished Island Park Reservoir this year but have spent a lot of time fishing it. I've snowmachined into the west end several times and would rather fish the West End that Lakeside Lodge, Buttermilk or Dam area. The Trudes area isn't going to be more than 5-10 feet deep right now but I'm sure it would be good. Be careful driving snowmachines on the ice on the west end if you don't know where the springs are. On the west end I've seen large areas of open water when the ice is a foot an a half thick only a hundred yards away.
I just use my standard rainbow and kokanee jigs/ice flies at Island Park reservoir. I like small tube jigs and glow in the dark never hurts. I normally do best with lighter colors of jigs but have had days were black or dark colored jigs do best. I like to tip my jigs with a meal worm, wax worm or peice of night crawler and a little powerbait never seems to hurt. I generally fish 1-3 feet above the bottom. Kokanee are often suspended. You could catch them at any depth.
