Every time I see the price of diesel fuel go up my blood just boils. I can remember working in a gas station back when regular was 39.9 cents, ethyl was 43.9 cents & diesel was like 24.9 cents a gallon. It still costs the oil companies a heckuva lot less to produce diesel than it does to produce gasoline. Probably 95% of diesel users have to pay the asking price for diesel or go outta business. Gasoline users on the other hand can carpool, take public transportation, cut back or just quit driving if the price gets too high.
I'm willing to bet there isn't anyone today that can find any purchased item in their homes that wasn't at some point handled by a diesel truck on its way to them. When the price of diesel fuel goes up, it's not long until everything else has to follow.
The oil companies know full well that they have the diesel users (and the rest of the nation) right by the short hairs. If Americas trucks all stopped for even a few days, this nation would grind to a stop and all hell would break loose.
You read where inventories of gasoline and diesel fuel are low so the price is raised. Lemme ask you this, does it really cost more to produce either gasoline or diesel when inventories are low than it does when inventories are large? If so, how and why?
I've done griped my fool head off about this and don't really have the slightest idea how to rectify this situation. I'd buy oil company stock if I didn't have to spend so much at the pump that I can't afford to. Anybody have ideas? C'mon, help us all out here!
