I can't quite help you with your location as far as where you live. But if your limited to bank fishing I would suggest river fishing and throw lines along with your rods to increase your chances of catching cats in any good numbers. The problem that your going to run into is day fishing from a bank, that's when the cats are typically in the deeper waters & it's a little tough without a boat. When fishing for cats from a bank I would reccomend you do it in the evenings, like 7:00pm or later. That's when the cats start coming out of the cover to feed. With that being said, I don't know how young your girls are but night fishing on a river bank can get a bit dangerous. My boys had to be atleast 8yrs of age and were able to swim before I let them come night river fishing. I don't know if any of this will help you? But it's how I started out many moons ago.
