TubeDude…Thread & Bobbins?
#2
[cool][#0000ff]First of all, happy to help where I can. No sense in everybody else having to learn through several decades of trial and error.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]If you are serious about making jigs, you really should buy or make a tieing table with which you can organize your materials and make jigs in batches. That is how I prefer to do it. Much faster and the quality control comes out better.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Yes, you should use bobbins. They help control the wrapping process better and they provide tension on the tie if you need to let go of the thread for any reason. Also...fewer blisters. You can see the ones I use in the attached pics. I think they are less than $3 at Cabelas and you do not need to spend a lot to get the desired results. I have about 10 of them and keep them loaded with different kinds of thread for quick access.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Several thread manufacturers make "jig tying thread". It can be bulky and heavy, or light and super strong. Almost anything that will take the tension of tieing large jigs without breaking is acceptable. I sometimes use size A fly tying thread. It is nylon and just about the right diameter for making good jigs without too much bulk.[/#0000ff]

[#0000ff]Glad you like the "sources" posts. I have more work to do, but it is useable as is. Let me know if there is anything you would like to see and I will be sure to include it.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Attaching some pics of larger size "pony/horse head jigs" I can make them up to 2 oz.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Also including some pics of darts. I have valued them in my arsenal for many years. Yes, they do have some wiggle when trolled or retrieved. You can enhance that by taking a drill bit to the flat front face and making it more concave.[/#0000ff]
[#0000ff][/#0000ff]
[#0000ff]Darts are great for vertical jigging too. They are balanced so that they hang in a horizontal mode.[/#0000ff]
