First off TubeDude, thank you for responding to my query regarding jig head styles. Great information and you peaked my interest with your suggestion to try Pony Jigs. I’ll order some for next year.
I’ll be in the Bahamas about a year this time and usually fish everyday destroying about three jigs a week… mostly to aggressive barracuda. I’ve got about one-hundred round- headed jigs collected (3/8 and ½ oz.), so I’ll need to make up a few more. I’ll try some Ponies. Also was curious about Shad Darts. You didn’t mention them in your response but I expect they have a lot more side-to-side movement than the traditional round-headed jigs. Any experience fishing them?
I was tying a couple of days ago and ran out of thread. I was using nylon upholstery thread. Anyway, swiped some polyester thread from my wife’s sewing kit… stuff was thin and it took a hell of a long time to tie a jig. Made me think that heavy weight thread must be good… maybe something heavier that the upholstery thread I’ve been using. Have you a suggestion? I also get blisters after a long tying session. Would the bobbins I see in Cabala’s help? If so, I would be willing to spend a few bucks and get a good one. Again… any suggestions would be most appreciated.
And finally, thank you for your new “Supplies and Sources” …I know everyone appreciates and benefits from the time and energy you devote to this site.
