you can fly fish year round in michigan,
you just have to pick your areas from the catalog to see wich trout streams lakes and ponds stay open. some do close around september, those you cant fish at all with anything...
michigan is more known for its salmon runs spring fall and winter than it is known for its trout.. even tho we plant a lot of them, the majority of what we do release is caught and kept, and the majority of what we dont catch and keep in the trout catigory dies duing our hot summers and lack of cold springs to keep them alive... trout do well in our lakes, just not so well in our rivers and streams because of the carp... even catfish and bullheads have been reduced in habitat by carp in our streams.
if you have never hooked in to a carp on a fly rod, you should give it a try. even the little ones are a riot. and if you ever tie in to a bigun if your not a beleiver of god you will be cause you will be prayin that freight train dosnt snap your fairy wond...[
] Its nothin to get spooled half dozen times on one fish before you tire him enough to get him in, un like other fish, carp have to be worn out before you can get them in... I cant tell ya how many times I about fell over laughing after seeing some one reaching over to pick up a carp when it had one more run left in him and about yank the pole out of his hand....[laugh]
we do have a few streams that stay open year round for trout, you just have to pick up the catilog that shows you wich ones do...
