In October the deeper lakes here go through the fall turnover and fishing tends to be poor. Stick to shallower lakes that do not turn over. Trout stocking is very big at this time of year. In Middlesex county Mirror Lake in Ayer and Long Sought for Pond in Westford are good trout spots.
