[black]I made my post, not as a criticism, but as a result of a personal experience.[/black]

Shortly after I started hunting, I had several good years hunting the Crawfords (Ut/Wyo line). Deer there were found in large herds, as they migrated from Wyo. for wintering.

I was jeeping down a road, and a large herd crossed the road in front of me. By the time I got stopped, and glassed them, they had stopped up on a hill several hundred yards from me. Three of them were standing facing me, back to belly, three in a row, stacked up.
I figured that I could hold high and hit one of them. I held over the back of the top one, and fired. The center deer backed out like a freight train. He was hit, and I went after him.

I had gut shot the deer, and spent an hour chasing him for a finishing shot. From that experience, I vowed that I would never take a marginal shot again, and I haven't. Yes, I have passed on a good many bucks, but I have never had to go through an experience like that again.
