As Fuzz pointed out early in the season more often than not we punch holes using an ice bar. Bing, bang, done.
Yes you'll be pulling the lighter sled, no doubt. On the other hand I'm old and lazy so my sled will be chasing the old Yammy or a wheeler. Its been said I'm easy to spot though because usually the skis of the yammy arent touching the ice as I glide along. I hate waisting time getting to the honey holes, dont you? Ha!
When it comes to ice drilling think of me as the Tim Taylor of the ice cap. Oh baby! MORE POWER! MORE POWER!
Just imagine 250cc's twisting 10" blades at 12,000 rmp's.
Of course it could be a little tough watching whats going on at the hole while drilling is taken place. Powder'ed ice will be jetting from the ice hole and shooting into the sky like the flame from an after burner. But, when tiny improvements are made theres usually a little give and take, right? [laugh]
