yep, the blue is factory lube.
it can come blue, white, black, clear... even red.
what I would have been concerned about would have been something like line rapped around the spinnerhead post, and the big knob under it.
from the looks of the photos I would say you either have a line not compatable with the reel. (most probable) or you got a rare chance of picking up a bad spool of line that has defects in its compisition.
It is rare, but it happens, the line injection mold may have gotten a little to hot for a short time when it produced your section of line causing it to become brittle. Many times if you write or email the line manufacture they will replace the line if you saved the bad line and shipped it to them with the box it came in.
They usualy send you a prepaid envalope for you to put the line in to mail back. They like to look at any suspicious line for defects in the process or chemical compound. Quality is of major concern to them.
