Nothing pisses me off more than a theif. the idea of leaving something on public land making is somehow understandable is BS. I garantee whoever took it knew exactly what they were doing, they knew it was a trail cam and they knew it was designed to be left and retrieved by the owner later. Hopefully karma will even the bill soon enough.
On the subject of security though, I was in cabelas over the weekend and I noticed trail cams that came with a cable that you can lock it to a tree with. I don't know much about trail cams and I don't know if this is a retrofittable option or if it is something you have to buy "built in", but it might be a wise investment, certainly cheaper than replacing a cam.
