You may want to consider the Okuma Halogen spinning combo. The part number is HGS-862M-40. It has 5 ball bearings in the reel + 1 for the line roller. The combo is only $85. It will handle 12lb just fine. That is a medium action set up.
If you like a little stiffer rod then you could go with the Okuma Halogen HGS-701H-40. That one is a 1 piece 7 foot rod whereas the first one is an 8'6" rod and 2 pieces.[cool]
