michigan has passed a law where you can not release non native fish back in to the water, which means if you catch a goby it is unlawfull to release it back in to the water live or dead.
It is a law of futillity, as to how many people follow this law, who knows. As well it is hard law to inforce, you have to have a CO or a person willing to spend a couple days in court testifying.
Goby has destroid the perch population and habitat in michigans great lakes.... perch are fun to catch even if you dont eat them.
You might want to ask a neighbor or two even a co worker if they would take and clean a pike if you caught it,,, they are boney but are still mighty taisty....[
