Rapala Lure
#5
You might want to try the "fire tiger" color. I probably use the "silver" rapalas most (has a black back, silver side and white bottom). I also like the chub colors because they are common forage in most places I fish. Select the color based on what the fish feed on in the place you are fishing and the water color. Sometimes the fire tiger works very well in crystal clear water.

I think the type, size and presentation of the rapala is going to be much more important than the color. The husky jerks can be worked very fast and might be a good choice for smallmouth. In the afternoon when the fish are deeper you may want to try a crankbait that will get you down deeper. The floating rapalas can be good in the morning and evening. Countdowns can work well in areas that have current and the fish aren't as deep. I use countdowns most.

Take my advice for what it is worth. I mostly use rapalas for trout but do spend some time fishing for bass. I also watch for sales on rapalas. Sometimes I can pick up a dozen or more rapalas in the color and size I want for $2 or less.

Good luck!
