Saberfish, I'm going to say a 5w sinking line is heavier than a 5w floating line. Take your 5w floating line and put it on a glass or bamboo rod. Cast it for a few minutes. Then put a 5w type V or VII on and tell me it ain't heavier. I can't cast a sinking line on my LT worth a damn. But put it on my McFarland GTX (same carbon as the Loomis GLX) and I can cast almost the whole line.
I know that sinking line is thinner, but tungsten is heavier than glass balloons. Floating lines have hollow glass balls in them to keep the line afloat. Sinking lines have usually tungsten powder to get the line down.
