Good Morning......I'm Heeeereee[cool]
I have several of the Battenkill LARGE ARBORS and a couple of the Battenkill Mid-Arbors, plus a few CFO's for the classic look.
Orvis also has the new Turbine which is the replacement for the Rocky Mountain. And there is the MACH for a little more money. Oh yeah, and a couple of the BBS
I like the Large Arbors because one turn of the handle brings in 10" to a foot of line at a time which is nice when the fish is swimming at you, plus they are light. The only di
vantage is a lack of backing. I have had fish take me to my backing, but I am always in a position to chase them. I have been know to run down the shore or on stillwater, turn my boat/tube and start kicking. I have had more fish run at me then away, so the LA is a plus.
Then there is the Mid Arbor. A little less inches on the turning end and a heavier reel out the box, then add backing so overall a bit heavier reel, which on a lot of the longer rods is a good balance. Nice center line drag on the reel instead of the gear drag on the LA. Advantages, more backing and a little wider reel so still have that LA advantage.
The Turbine is an inexpensive but great reel with a great off set drag. Cast aluminum for lighter action.
The other reels are machined Bar Stock Aluminum.
Great REELS and are all Asian made now.
The only down side! The reel foot is a bit thick and does not fit all reel seats. I have the band style on my Glass and the ENGLISH reel fits great, the Asian counterpart, does not, and I had to do some sanding. This is one problem Orvis has always had, not a big one, but one that need attention.
