I have been flyfishing for too many years now but have the last 20 years fly fishing saltwater.
I tie the majority of my own salt flies which are pretty much heavier for the Trout Laden lint chucker to swallow......er ......handle on a 3wt.[
]
I mostly use a 7,9,10 and 11wt rod since I like to big game it more for Yellow Tail and Halibut.
Halibut requires some of my heavier Clousers and lead lined Zonkers with a fast sinking tip to get down quicker.
Yellow Tail on the other hand will use some of the lighter Streamers, Mango Flies and Minnows with a slower sinking line or a small piece of Tyger leader.
When I say lighter I am referring to the flies that weigh just under 3/4oz[shocked].
My heavier flies can weigh up to 1 or 1 1/4oz.[cool] Just right for the salt but way too heavy for trout.
Some of my lighter streamers work well for Bass too.
I also tie lots of different Shrimp patterns for Surf fishing.[cool]
