Wasn't one of the main reasons that the DWR has been interested in the Gerrard strain fish is that they live a lot longer than most of the other current bow strains in use? I have read the DWR has found that the bulk of our rainbows grow rapidly in our lakes for 3 years then disappear. They are hoping the Gerrards won't do this, and thus achieve larger top end size in a suitable environment. They don't neccesarrily grow faster than other varieties up to the point the other strains drop out.
It does seem to me that the DWR has been working hard on finding optimal strains for the waters they manage (including Gerrards/Kamloops) and should be complimented on their work.
