the more I work on these seets, the more I beleive they were under designed. meaning it wasnt built to stand up to every day use.
after getting the old boards off and examining it after the rat urin smell died down, I see that it was origanaly oak.
I think his my cousins first mistake was in painting the seats, I beleive the boat seats needed to breathe, much like in the way deck boards need to. The seats were actualy failing before he had left it outside uncovered for a couple years...
the one thing I havent found yet is the styrofome that goes in between the pannels under the seats. roughly 10"x8"x5' are the dementions of the foam.
I am thinking about cutting 2 inch insulation to put back insted of the rat urinated foam. What do you think about the floatation properties of 2 inch thick house insulation?
I will sandwich the insulation together to fill up the space between the metal sheets.
