I installed the rest of the seat braces, took me most of the day, using a hack saw to cut all the aluminum stock and a file to finish froming and removing burs, runing back to the toy store to get more aluminum stock only to not pick up any more stainless steel seet bolts...[angelic] need to make another run back to the toy store....[laugh]
the open spot to the left of the glove box is for the fire extinguisher. there I am thinking PVC and velcro strap. put the pvc in on a 45 degree angle putting a cap on the back and cut open drainage hole in the back.
I am rather slow these days, and using a hack saw and a file to form all the braces dose take a minute or two...
I still have thirty holes to drill for rivets and thirty holes to drill for seat bolts.
the original seats did not have braces, the planks ran all the way across and the seat mount mounted to the bottom of the seat board. allowing oppertunity for stress on the board and the 1/32 galvenized formed sheet metal that holds the seat mounts.
as you know I went with cedar because I could not find any other wood other than presure treated plywood. this means I have a softer material to work with. the angle iron I used to make my braces realy added to the strenth of my boat and the seats boards dont give one Iota when I sit on them now. [#ff0000]***** [/#ff0000]one thing I did not mention incase any one ever attepts to replace boat seats was that the boat it extreamely relient on the seat boards, when I pulled the seats out the boats width narrowed in a couple inches. so I litterly had to beat the new seats in place.
so if you are relient on measurements of the seats and you wont have the old seat to use as a template the way I did, it is important to make those measurements before removing the seats.
I removed all three seats at once, that two was a mistake becuse it allowed the boat to become fully relaxed. I just hope I did not loosen any rivits to allow oppertunity for leeks..
