There is only one efficient way to do "Slide Lineing". First I will give you a material list and then explain how to go about the process.
This is a common rig that I use from the Piers while night fishing for Sharks.
Materials needed:
5 30# steel leaders with locking swivels on each end or have the hook pre attatched and the locking swivel on one end only.
5 4/0 to 8/0 hooks to attach to the steel leaders.
2 4 to 6 oz Pyramid Sinker(heavier or lighter depending on tide and current)
5 1oz tear drop sinkers.
20 to 30lb test line on your reel.
Rod and Reel of your choice that will handle 20 to 30lb line.
Fresh or Frozen bait. (Squid, Cut bait, Mackeral)
Instructions:
You will need to premake or purchase your steel leaders and attatch the hooks. You should use some leaders at 24inches and some at 36inches.
1. Tie the heavier sinker on the end of the line from your pole with a sturdy knot. Preferrably a San Diego knot or Trilene Knot. (This will be your strong hold on the pull)
2. Cast out as far as your abilities permit or to a desired distance that you are comfortable with.
3. Attatch 1oz sinker to the open clip on the locking swivel opposite of the hook and attach to your line. (The small weight on the top, by the line will pull this leader down to the depths to get bit)
4. Be sure to attatch your bait before dropping the leader down and don't forget to close the clip on the locking swivel.
After about every 15 to 20 minutes, repeat steps 3 and 4 until you have exhausted your 5 leaders.
15 minutes after you have used your last leader, pull the whole rig up for cleaning unless you already caught something in the mean time.
Re bait and start all over.
You can do this in California as well. The only difference is that you can only have 2 hooks on the line at a time.[cool]
