I don't work retail, nor am I a direct service employee. However, my father is, and his business is located in a very, very small town. He helps the customer in whatever way he can, whenever he can regardless of whether or not that person is likely to buy from him at that given moment. Why? Because that person remembers how they were treated, even if they are looking to save a buck. In this day and age where everyone has the "me" attitude my dad still maintains the "you" service, and that's what has kept his business GROWING. I understand that there is a "cost" associated with doing business, but if you aren't willing to help me out under all circumstances, I'm less likely to go to you under any.
So, Jed and others, please take note. No matter what you want and what you expect, it is ultimately the buyer that sets the market. If you want to attract buyers you have to make sure that they feel that you are doing everything in your power to make them feel like you care! Not care about $$$$, but about the person you are servicing.
And to be short, I'd like to know where anyone who has replied, saying that they feel slighted by the internet shopper, works so that I may make up my mind as to whether or not I would like to utilize their services. If you feel confident that you have presented your case well, then you'd have absolutely nothing to worry about.
