Drop shotting and standout hooks
#2
I do not know that much about drop shotting but I am interested in learning more. There are three times when I have tried it. the one that I use the most is actually with my fly rod. when I need to a nymph into a really deep hole I like to beef up my tippet ant but a drop shot on the end with the nymph of nymphs coming further up the tippet. This has really worked well for me in couple of select locations. It works better if you have a 7-9 weight, but I can get my 5 weight to do the job.

The other time I do it is in a river with deep holes and a lot of brush. The brush is so thick that my fly fishing skills are not good enough to keep me from swearing all day so I resort to what works, worms or minnows. Ok purists go ahead and beat me with a few stripes[Wink]. In this case I do the same thing eccept with a spinning rod. I let the "dropshot" bounce along the bottom and try to feel the strike. This has been really productive in the right situation.

This winter I fished boysen in Wyoming and the locals said to use live minnows with a drop shop for perch. I tried it and it worked ok. I guess I caught as many as anyone around me but it was kind of ironic when i came home and caught many more on good ol' perch eyes at Mudlake.

Hope you find someone that knows more about it then me.
